What is Sap to Syrup? It is a program that lets visitors experience the maple sugaring process from start to finish. Participants will learn how maple trees are tapped, explore the history and traditions of maple sugaring, learn how to build their own evaporator, and venture into the sugar bush to see the process in action.
But in order for us to pull this off....WE NEED YOU!
Mandatory Training Sunday, February 15; 3:00-4:30pm Creek Bend Farm
EVENT DATE: Saturday, March 7; 1:00-4:00pm
SHIFTS: 12:15-2:30 and/or 2:15-4:30pm
During this training we will be discussing the different volunteer opportunities available. These will include:
Evaporator Operators (2 per shift): These individuals will be working outside, behind the Wilson Nature Center to boil down the sap. They will be working with a fire. There is also the possibility that we may be operating the evaporator on week days before the program during the weeks of the 15th and 22nd, if volunteers are available. This is dependent upon sap production and will be announced.
Greeters (1 per shift): Greeting/counting visitors, sharing what activities are available.
Dining area (3 per shift): greeting visitors, preparing waffles, making popcorn, keeping area neat.
Crafting area (2 per shift): help visitors with crafts.
We will review and assign each job during the training. We will also have a brief overview of how the tapping process works and why it works.
